About the idea behind Etudes Sans Frontières
The main objective of Etudes Sans Frontières – Studies Without Borders (ESF) is to support motivated young people from crisis regions with their studies in order to enable them to implement their own development projects. It is our belief that educated young people with the motivation for constructive engagement are crucial for the successful reconstruction of their home region.
ESF chapters are active in different countries all over the world. Besides our main objective we also seek to inform the public about the situation in the target regions and establish cross-border cultural interchange.
ESF groups are currently running or planning projects in Chechnya (Russia), the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Rwanda and Haiti, with projects in further regions to come.
About Etudes Sans Frontières International
Etudes Sans Frontières International (ESFI, Studies Without Borders International) is the international framework organisaton of national ESF chapters. It has two major objectives:
1. Defining common values and approaches for all national chapters and ensuring that they are respected in all our work.
2. Facilitating the exchange between the national chapters and providing support and consultation to improve our work.
To work towards the second objective, three support groups have been set up. The three groups collect and synthesise lessons learnt from the different chapters, as well as useful input from external sources and based on this provide active consultation on demand. Given the distance between its members, these groups mainly work through ESFI’s online platform, but there are also small teams based in different cities working on specific tasks.
