The ESF International conference in Paris from June 7th to June 9th 2013 went very well. It was a perfect opportunity for us to exchange ideas and knowledge, but also to make new friends and enjoy some time together. ESF members from Canada, France, Germany and Spain gathered in Paris to discuss ESF’s work and create new connections and ideas on how to work closer together on the international level.
It were four inspiring and motivating days – especially because we could welcome Raissa, an ESF fellow who has studied journalism in Paris.
She was one of the first students to be supported by ESF France. At the conference, she told us about how she made her way from war-beaten Chechnya to Paris and back – but read further on her story here!
Getting to know her in person and hearing about her career was great. As many ESF members never meet their fellow students face to face, it was a wonderful and motivating opportunity to realize what our support can put into effect.
Furthermore, ESFI used the opportunity of our convention to elect a new International Executive Committee (IEC). Since the foundation in 2011, this was the first time a major change in personal structure has taken place.
The five founders and their successors plan to make our organization grow further: After the first generation of students supported by the French chapter has finished their studies successfully, the chapter is looking for new spirits – ambitious people who want to contribute to a better education in crisis regions.
Recently two of our members left their home country for a semestre to study in the US and in France. One could say they live up to what ESFI stands for: study without borders – cross borders and work together!
